A Bold New Look for RSTOR

Over the coming weeks and months, you’ll start to see some visual and cosmetic changes at RSTOR and I want to take a few minutes to explain what is happening and why.

Since our inception, RSTOR has been driven by a mission to disrupt the cloud industry with products that challenge preconceptions, delight customers and radically improve every part of the cloud stack.  Let me state unequivocally that RSTOR products, services and personal attention will not change. In fact, you will see some new products and upgrades from us in the near future that will make managing your efforts in the cloud even more efficient and cost effective.  What you will see is a “fresh coat of paint,” aka a rebranding on the technology you have come to rely upon, and new services to upgrade your cloud experience.

RSTOR empowers customers with a true ‘software defined cloud’ built for the secure, performant edge

The first part of our rebranding process is acknowledging where the cloud industry is today and where it’s going in the future.  In our assessment, we recognize that customers are in very different stages of their cloud journey – some organizations are 100% cloud native, some are still 100% based in private data centers (and may always be), and others are at various stages of transitioning to the cloud.  At RSTOR, we are building services for every customer, regardless of where they are in their own unique cloud journey.

As an IT industry, we also need to acknowledge that there’s no one cloud experience that neatly fits every customer. We believe the most flexible approach to the cloud is to distribute data and compute to the most appropriate cloud resource. That can be challenging as some incumbent cloud service providers (CSPs) lock their customers into their infrastructure with economic disincentives to move data and roam jobs between clouds.  RSTOR is driven by a desire to empower our customers through flexibility, efficiency and freedom.  After all, it’s your data.  Why shouldn’t you be able to access it and move it as you see fit?

That’s why we’re launching a truly Software Defined Cloud suite of tools and services which embraces the customers need to be multi-cloud, and will help organizations find and utilize the right resource for the right job. Sometimes that will be on our RSTOR managed infrastructure, and sometimes it may not, and that is fine.   Our goal is to empower our customers, and deploy for them the most appropriate resource for them, not for us.

The software defined cloud needs and deserves  a suite of services in each of the above categories and that stack starts with storage. Without a flexible, globally distributed, highly performant storage foundation, you can’t hope to build a modern service stack on top.   RSTOR, since its inception has made storage a priority, and today’s announcement is the next evolution in our offering.

Today, we’re announcing a name change for our core storage offering, RStorage. The new name reflects our fundamental belief that the value of storage is driven by the value of the data you put into it.  Anyone working in the cloud knows that companies need space not only to  store their most valuable assets but also space to innovate and grow.  That space needs to be highly resilient, protected and distributed everywhere.

Therefore we’re changing the name of RStorage to RSTOR Space:

RSTOR Space offers the same unique value as before, with high speed data access, global footprint and no charges for accessing your data – no ingress, egress, API, movement or access fees.

You’ll also notice a new brand identity across both our website and our products, which will define where in the services stack they sit.  Our new brand is clean, bold and yet still approachable and friendly – much like RSTOR itself.  We’re challenging the cloud industry even with our website design which will bring simplicity and honesty to our products and services.

We’ve got a lot of exciting new products and innovations to come in the following weeks and months and I look forward to sharing them with you.  The new RSTOR Software Defined Cloud will offer organizations of all sizes the ability to truly embrace a modern, dynamic and flexible multi-cloud strategy.  We are looking forward to seeing what you will build with it!

Speed to insight has long been an important objective, but users are often frustrated by delays in getting from data to insights, sometimes due not to technology but rather to project issues. Challenges are only growing as data, especially streaming data, gets more voluminous, varied, and moves with greater velocity. Fortunately, cloud vendors are providing solutions and options to fit ambitious use cases as well as corresponding analytics and AI workloads.
